Wind in the Willows

In “The Wind in the Willows”, written by Kenneth Grahame, many animals quickly become friends. They live in the English countryside and have many exciting adventures. Among these characters are Mole and Badger, who became friends. While Mole and Badger are two very good friends, they are opposite in character, but they have similar traits.

Mole, who is short and fluffy with a small white nose, is dependent, meek, and a follower. Because he needed Ratty’s help when they got flipped into the river. Being dependent on others, Mole listens to Badger’s orders when they go to fight the Weasels at Toad Hall. When he almost gets quickly run over by a motorcar, instead of getting mad like Ratty, Mole remains quiet and tries to calm the horse. Throughout the story, Mole is a shy animal who is meek, gentle, and dependent.

On the other hand, Badger is the opposite of Mole. He is tall and shaggy with a long black snout. Independence, seriousness, and leadership are Badger’s strengths. Because he lives alone in the “Wild Wood,” he is independent. The “Wild Wood” is a dangerous place. Showing independence, Badger is able to survive by himself. Despite difficulties, Badger shows leadership when he figures out a plan to get into “Toad Hall”. He also leads the attack to get rid of the Weasels. When he doesn’t let Toad steal the motorcars, he is trying to teach Toad responsibility, which shows that Badger takes matters seriously. Badger’s seriousness, independence, and leadership help Mole, Ratty, and Mr. Toad throughout the story.

While Mole and Badger are very different, they have many similarities. They are both kind, hospitable, and courageous. Mole shows kindness by helping Ratty pack up the picnic basket for their lunch. Badger shows kindness by providing shelter, food, and clean clothes to Ratty and Mole when they are lost in the “Wild Wood”. Showing hospitality, Badger welcomes the hedgehogs into his home because they were cold and scared. By inviting Ratty into his small house and feeding him, Mole shows hospitality. Courageously, they make plans to protect Toad Hall. Mole and Badger share many similar characteristics, such as kindness, hospitality, and courage.

In conclusion, even though Mole and Badger are very different, they have many similar traits. While Mole is meek, dependent, and a follower, Badger is serious, independent, and a leader. They are both kind, hospitable, and courageous. “The Wind in the Willows” is a book where animals with different personalities become very good friends.
