Bridge to Terabithia

I recently just finished a book called Bridge to Terabithia, which was written by Katherine Paterson. The story starts with a boy called Jess Aarons, who wants to be the fastest runner in fifth grade. Then, he meets the new girl, Leslie Burkes, who manages to surpass him. Jess and Leslie end up becoming friends, and they are almost always in the woods behind Leslie’s house. They named those woods Terabithia. One day, Leslie goes to Terabithia by herself, and she gets into a horrible accident and passes away…

This is a really good book because of its style of writing and all the intricate details that Katherine put into it. Every time I read a sentence or finish a chapter, I can just picture the setting that Leslie and Jess are in. This book is very complicated, some of it is even based on Katherine’s own life. In her authors note, she remarked:

“Forty years ago, I thought that nobody outside my husband and four children would understand Bridge to Terabithia. It had grown out of the worst year of our life together — my cancer and the tragic death of our son David’s best friend Lisa. With fear and trembling I carried one of my first ten copies to Lisa’s mother. To my enormous relief and everlasting gratitude, the Hill family embraced my little story. In 1977 it hardly mattered to me if anyone else did.”

I would recommend this book to everyone because of its heartwarming way of writing. I also feel like some kids out there can relate to this book a lot. Living on a farm, having an imaginary play world, and losing a best friend. Everyone should read this book at least once in their life, because it will leave a wholesome impression on you.
